Countdown to Election Day
Meet Alexis Smith
Alexis is currently your Chief Deputy Assessor in Larimer County. She was appointed by your current Assessor, Steve Miller in 2010. Prior to that, Alexis worked in the Assessor’s Office as a Senior Appraiser and as an analyst. She manages the strategic operations of the Assessor’s Office, including compliance with state-mandated reporting, process deadlines, annual reports, and the appraisal of real and personal property, among other duties. Alexis works with a great staff to discover, list, classify, and value all real and taxable personal property in Larimer County. This includes more than 150,000 residential and highly complex commercial properties, vacant land, agricultural properties and business personal property.
Alexis has over 20 years of real estate experience and technical expertise, including a background in both the private sector and local government. Prior to joining Larimer County, Alexis worked with a commercial real estate management company in the Cherry Creek area. Soon after moving from Arvada to Loveland, Alexis went to work for a real estate developer active with expertise in water rights acquisition and transfer. While there, she worked with many in our agriculture community and became a licensed real estate broker associate. In 2001 she came to work for the Assessor’s office. She has worked on multiple specialties in the office including conservation easements, vacant land valuation, geographical and statistical analysis, damage assessment team management and process improvement just to name a few.
Education and Licenses
Alexis is a graduate of Southern Utah University, a licensed Certified General Appraiser since 1991, and was licensed as a Real Estate Broker in 2000. She is a member of the Colorado Association of Tax Appraisers and the International Association of Assessing Officers. Alexis has testified several times as an expert witness in property valuation matters at the Colorado Board of Assessment Appeals.
Outside the Office - more about who she is when she's not at work
Alexis likes to note that she was “recruited” by a Colorado native while he was stationed as the Army recruiter in Southern Utah. After graduation she followed her heart and moved to Colorado with the soldier that swept her off her feet. Before she knew it she fell in love again, this time with an amazing state of Colorado. Alexis resides in Loveland with her soldier sweetheart – now husband, Robb and their daughter. They have two grown sons that both recently got married and are now living out of state. Alexis is confident that the irresistible call of all that Colorado has to offer will bring them back, hopefully before the addition of grandchildren.
Alexis is president of a local American Legion Auxiliary unit and actively supports her husband, Robb Smith, who was recently sworn in as the State of Colorado Department Commander of the American Legion. As the daughter of a World War II veteran and the wife of a combat veteran, she truly appreciates the plight of our veterans and the families that support them.
Alexis is a breast cancer survivor and has resolved to show her daughter and young ladies like her that facing adversity head on makes us strong but recognizing we don’t have to do it alone makes us invincible. Her message is simple and applies to all; but especially young women: Be kind to one another; support each other. “I couldn’t have made it through without all the love and support from all the sisters I never knew I had.”
Alexis also contributes much of her strength to her faith in God, especially during her cancer treatments. Alexis enjoys teaching her regular Sunday School class and escaping to the mountains whenever she can. She also likes to consider herself a “rescuer” of abandoned children’s books. She likes to find just the right few to share with friends, family, and coworkers that have young children.
